The Trades Practices Act 1974 (herein referred to as The Act)
requires Original Equipment Manufacturers to honor the terms of their printer
warranty unless they are able to prove that printer damage has been caused by a factor outside its
control, example - a non-genuine cartridge.
It is prohibited by the Act for OEMs to state that customers should use only their
original products when other products are available that will work with the
specified machine. Failure to comply with The Act can result in fines up to
$10 million for the company involved and $500,000 for the individual involved.
